Scent work is a sport that mimics the task of working detection dogs to locate a scent and communicate to the handler that the scent has been found. Real-life detection dogs are trained to search for a variety of things–drugs, explosives, human remains, currency, other contraband, living humans (such as for Search and Rescue), and much more. Scent work takes this amazing working relationship and turns it into a fun game that any dog can play.

Scent work is great for:

  • Busy dogs with energy to burn.
  • Shy dogs or rescue dogs for a great boost of confidence.
  • Old dogs who would love a low-impact activity to keep them engaged.
  • Dogs who may need a little space around other dogs. Dogs work one at a time.
  • Puppies!
  • Dogs with no formal training-no prerequisites required

Scent work is easy to teach and fun to train. The only equipment needed is a few scented Q-tips and a dog that loves toys or food. Scent work is also great for city dogs because training can happen anywhere.

Additional Details:

  • Reactive dogs welcome.
  • One dog will be working in the building at a time.
  • Dogs will be expected to remain in their vehicle while not working.

PLEASE NOTE: Do not feed your dog their regular meal immediately before your training session. If your lesson interrupts your regular feeding schedule, please feed your dog only a small portion of their regular meal.

All handlers must be 18 years or older and physically able to restrain the dog. Persons under the age of 18 are only permitted to hold the leash with an adult present and handling a secondary safety line.
