In our Basic O classes, the most requested behaviors to work on are Loose Leash Walking, Heeling, Leave It and Stay, so we decided to make these behaviors a class of their own!
Long walks and public outings can provide your dog with much needed exercise and socialization — but what do you do when your dog’s idea of a fun time is dragging you down the street, sniffing or chasing everything in their path, and pretending you do not exist??
In this class, you will learn to effectively communicate with your dog and let him know you want him to walk at your side rather than pull on his leash. You’ll also learn how to ask your dog to ignore distractions when asked (“leave it”) and how to stay in one place until you release them (“stay”).
If your dog struggles with:
Join our On-the-Move Manners class and learn how to guide your dog to walk with you, at your pace, and behave nicely on a leash.
- Your dog should have the basic foundation behaviors of sit, down, reliable name response and foundation work for loose leash walking. You and your dog should understand Marker training ie: “Yes” or “Click”. This is not a Basic class.
What to bring:
- Yummy treats that are soft, meaty, smelly and cut up very small
- A convenient way to manage treats: Bait Pouch, Training Vest, etc. Please call us if you have questions.
- Water bowl and water
- Dog should be wearing a flat collar and for those dogs who are difficult to control a front hook walking harness. Any other training gear must be cleared with the trainer.
- Dog’s blanket or mat.
- Sense of humor!
- No Retractable Leashes.
No Reactive Dogs
Dogs must be friendly toward other dogs and people. If your dog is friendly but barks at other dogs or people, please call us for options. Your dog may benefit more from our Control Unleashed class, Basic Obedience or even our Reactive Dog Class.
