What is Flyball?
Flyball is a high-speed relay sport that is ideal for high-energy dogs. People that enjoy fast-paced team sports love flyball! All breeds and mixes are welcome.
- Two teams of 4 dogs each race side-by-side over a 51 ft long course comprised of 4 jumps. The height of the jumps is determined by the height of the smallest dog on the team.
- Each dog must run over the jumps, trigger a flyball box (releasing the ball) retrieve the ball, and return over the jumps.
- The next dog is released to run the course but can’t cross the start/finish line until the previous dog has returned over all 4 jumps and reached the start/finish line.
- The first team to have all 4 dogs finish the course without error wins the heat.
Goals of Flyball Class:
Using the tools learned in Active Dog, we progress to basic flyball skills. We will work toward training a proper box turn, passing skills, handling skills, improving speed and working with distractions. The pace of this class will be tailored to the proficiency of the dogs that are participating.
All levels of Flyball meet at the same time, but dogs will be grouped according to their skill level.
